1. A bill to send a force (less than 250 members) to the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti
(MINUSTAH) was passed during the plenary session of the National Assembly on February 9.

2. The bill was passed about 20 days after the United Nations Security Council adopted resolution 1908
on January 19 to send an additional 2,000 soldiers and 1,500 police officers to MINUSTAH regarding
the earthquake in Haiti, which reflects the need to support Haiti’s prompt recovery and reconstruction.

3. The force to be sent to Haiti consists of a total of 240 members, mostly engineers but also including
guard, support and medical services personnel operating in the region where the force will be stationed.
The force will be engaged in recovery, reconstruction, and humanitarian support activities in Leogane,
the region where the force will be stationed.

※ Leogane is located 40 km west of Port au Prince, Haiti's capital.

4. With this participation in UN Peacekeeping Operation in Haiti, the government expects that Korea
will make more active contribution to global peace and stability as “Global Korea.”
